Remembering Pahalgam — One Year On - HAJI SYED SALMAN CHISHTY Gaddi Nashin, Dargah Ajmer Sharif | Chairman, Chishty Foundation
22 April 2026
One year ago today, the meadows of Baisaran Valley, one of the most breathtaking corners of this ancient land bore witness to an act of savage cruelty that shook every humane conscience across the world.
Twenty-six innocent lives were extinguished. Tourists who had travelled to our blissful Kashmir in search of beauty, rest, and wonder never returned home. Their families have lived every day since in a grief that no words can adequately honour.
On this first anniversary, we speak not only as a spiritual custodian but as a fellow human being: what happened in Pahalgam was an assault on life itself. On the simple, irreplaceable miracle of a human being alive in the world. No ideology, no cause, no claimed purpose can ever justify the cold-blooded killing of the innocent. Those who commit such acts stand against everything that civilisation, conscience, and shared humanity have ever stood for.
Our Kashmir is not a valley of violence. It is a valley of poets, mystics, farmers, and dreamers. The overwhelming people of that land proved it that day mourning alongside the nation, standing in solidarity with the bereaved.
We remember the twenty-six today with deep sorrow, with abiding respect, and with an unbreakable commitment to the world they deserved to live in — a world of peace, dignity, and coexistence.
They will not be forgotten.
